Threads of Time

2010
Description
The ideas that informed this commission aimed to acknowledge the history of the site (as a former linen mill) and also the wider Newtownabbey geographical area through a celebration of local history from past to present, brought together in a dynamic sculptural form that connects these threads between people and place. The sculpture aims to achieve this through the symbolic design of a large sloping table form draped with a tablecloth that is transformed into a representation of the surrounding landscape with field patterns, roads and significant historical features. The tablecloth in effect becomes a map of the areas local history.
